A Critical Facility Under Construction: VILPE Sense Protects New Data Center Roof in Latvia

In Salaspils, Latvia, a new high-performance data center is rising to meet the growing demand for secure digital infrastructure. Designed by Citrus Solutions for Tet, the DC7 facility combines advanced reliability standards with sustainable solutions — and now, VILPE Sense has been chosen to safeguard its roof. With 110 sensors and two mobile bases planned, the system will provide continuous leak monitoring across 2,157 m² of roof area, protecting one of the most critical facilities in the Baltic region.
The Tet DC7 data center is being developed by Citrus Solutions for Tet in Salaspils, Latvia. Construction began in 2024 and will continue in phases until 2028. Once completed, the center will operate at Uptime Institute Tier III standards, offering an availability of 99.982% and hosting over 200 racks of equipment. In addition to reliability, sustainability plays a key role in the project: the facility is designed to reuse waste heat for district heating in Salaspils (reference 1, reference 2).

The project includes two main buildings — the data center and an adjacent office section — with a combined roof area of 2,157m² (395 m² + 1,762 m²). The roofs are insulated with multilayer stone wool, finished with a PVC membrane, and supported either by reinforced concrete panels in the flat roof sections or by profiled steel structures in the sloped server hall roof.
VILPE Sense for continuous roof monitoring
To secure a mission-critical facility such as DC7, the project team placed strong emphasis on the reliability of the roof system. While the layered roof structures provide robust physical protection, continuous monitoring was required to further reduce the risk of leaks and moisture damage. After considering different technological options for moisture detection, the developers selected VILPE Sense to provide this layer of assurance.

The system will be installed across the entire 2,157 m² roof area, with 110 sensors connected to two mobile base units. The benefits with VILPE Sense sensor technology are that the sensors continuously monitor the conditions inside the roof in real time, with data accessible remotely by the facility’s operators. This means that potential problems can be identified immediately, and early intervention is possible long before a leak or moisture buildup develops into a serious issue.
By integrating VILPE Sense into the DC7 project, the developers are enhancing the resilience of the facility. The monitoring system complements the high-performance roof structures and supports the overarching goal of creating a secure and reliable data center environment.
Securing the future of data infrastructure

The DC7 project demonstrates how modern data centers are designed not only for performance and efficiency, but also for resilience. Every element of the building envelope has been carefully engineered to safeguard operations, and the addition of VILPE Sense ensures that roof integrity is continuously monitored.
For Tet and Citrus Solutions, this means that the facility will be equipped with both robust structural protection and intelligent monitoring technology. For VILPE, it represents another step in supporting mission-critical infrastructure across Europe, where even the smallest building defect could have major consequences.
