VILPE Sense: Roof Moisture Meter Solutions for Water Damage Prevention

Water damage prevention starts with identifying risks early, before the problem becomes visible.

Imagine this: your roof appears intact, but weeks later, dark stains start to appear on your interior ceiling. By that point, water has already caused damage completely unnoticed. Water damage prevention starts with identifying risks early, before the problem becomes visible. While many associate water damage with broken pipes, it can just as easily start from the roof. Using a roof moisture meter like VILPE Sense helps detect hidden roof moisture issues in time, making repairs easier, more targeted, and more affordable.

Why Moisture Control Is Crucial for Water Damage Prevention

Small punctures can easily occur, for instance, if a tool is dropped on the roof during maintenance or inspection.

Moisture or water damage poses a serious risk to buildings. Water damage prevention is critical because moisture is the primary contributor to mold growth. If moisture enters the structures through, for example, a leaking pipe or roof and the structure cannot properly ventilate, the risk of mold damage becomes very real. Moisture damage often goes unnoticed within structures until it escalates into indoor air quality problems or premature deterioration of building materials.

While many associate water damage with broken pipes, it can just as easily start from the roof. Common causes include:

  • Roof damage. Small punctures can easily occur, for instance, if a tool is dropped on the roof during maintenance or inspection. These minor damages are often impossible to detect without a thorough roof inspection.
  • Changes in construction methods: What was once an accepted construction practice may later be identified as a risk-prone structure.

Moisture damage is not solely dependent on the age of the building; even newly constructed buildings can experience issues. According to a study (Kantar, link to results), 30% of roofing professionals reported that the first problems are typically identified within 0–2 years of a building’s completion.

The same study also revealed that up to 48% of roofs require repairs before their expected lifetime ends. These repair costs usually fall on the property owner. Insurance typically covers roof damage only when it results from unexpected or unforeseeable events, such as a tree falling on the roof. Hidden defects or construction faults often fall outside the scope of insurance coverage, making claims difficult to secure.

How a Roof Moisture Meter Works and What It Detects

Unlike traditional roof moisture meters, VILPE Sense provides continuous structure monitoring.

Much like moisture alarms that alert you to water damage from leaking household appliances, VILPE Sense provides continuous, automated monitoring for roof moisture problems. It helps you to support water damage prevention before issues escalate. However, VILPE Sense is much more than just a standard roof moisture meter.

Traditional roof moisture meters only provide data when someone uses them manually. A person must climb onto the roof and measure it area by area, often spending hours on the task. These checks tend to happen infrequently, leaving long gaps between inspections. If a leak appears shortly after a routine check, no one will notice it until much later. This delay makes water damage prevention much harder and increases the risk of costly repairs.

VILPE Sense: Smart Roof Moisture Meter with Real-Time Alerts

Unlike traditional roof moisture meters, VILPE Sense provides continuous structure monitoring.

VILPE Sense is a roof moisture meter designed to make property management easier. Unlike traditional roof moisture meters, VILPE Sense provides continuous structure monitoring. It automatically stores data in the cloud, allowing property managers to access real-time information via a smartphone or computer. This makes it easy to monitor multiple buildings at once without needing to climb onto the roof.

Best of all, VILPE Sense sends automatic alerts once you have set the alarm limits. If moisture levels rise and remain elevated, the system sends an alert to the user’s email. This means that you don’t have to monitor the data – you can rely on VILPE Sense to handle it for you.

There are two VILPE Sense options for roof monitoring:

  •  VILPE Sense Leak Detector: Install the sensors in the insulation layer. The system monitors the area and alerts you when it detects increased moisture levels. Any potential leak is easy to locate on the moisture map in the VILPE Sense cloud service.
  • VILPE Sense Humidity Control: If the system detects rising humidity levels, the roof fan automatically starts drying the structure. Once the humidity returns to normal levels, the roof fan returns to its normal performance level.

Installing VILPE Sense: Make Roof Moisture Monitoring Easy

The VILPE Sense is suitable for both new buildings and existing structures. It is easy to implement with the support of VILPE’s experts, and you can integrate the roof moisture meter with building automation systems.

VILPE Sense product family:

  • Leak Detection: You’ll need a mobile base station and leak detection sensors. The recommendation is installing 10 sensors per 200 m² area, with a spacing of approximately 4–5 meters between sensors.
  • Humidity Control: You’ll need the VILPE Sense Basic Kit and a roof fan.

The installer places the VILPE Sense sensors inside the roof structure and positions the mobile base station indoors. The sensors are wireless. Once the setup is complete, the user interface displays real-time humidity and temperature data directly in the cloud service. This data keeps you informed for effective roof monitoring and supports proactive water damage prevention.

Summary: Better Roof Moisture Management, Less Water Damage Risk

VILPE Sense system helps building owners in water damage prevention.

Moisture and water damage are unfortunately common problems in buildings of all types and ages. Time is a critical factor in minimizing the extent of damage. The longer moisture remains trapped in structures, the bigger and more costly the repairs become. That’s why water damage prevention plays a key role in effective property management.

Proactive maintenance with a roof moisture meter like VILPE Sense helps you tackle these issues before they grow. In the worst cases, some or all areas of the building might become unavailable during repairs. This can significantly impact business operations in factories, hotels, shopping centers, and other commercial buildings. With VILPE Sense, you no longer have to rely on guesswork. The system provides objective data to support decision-making and makes it easier to target repairs exactly where they are needed.

VILPE Sense allows you to detect and fix issues before they escalate into costly water damage. With continuous roof monitoring, you always stay informed about your roof’s condition. And because monitoring is fully automated, you can focus on other tasks with peace of mind.
