IBI Intelligent building infrastructure: Data commercialization

data
Co-funded by the EU

The aim of VILPE’s project IBI Intelligent building infrastructure: Data commercialization is to explore how the data produced by VILPE Sense can be utilized as the foundation for new service opportunities. The project is co-funded by the EU.

The VILPE Sense smart roof system generates data about a building’s conditions. This data is valuable to building owners or property maintenance companies, as it can help detect minor issues before they escalate into costly and difficult problems to fix.

The project investigates customer needs related to the data produced by VILPE Sense and defines the value chain necessary for delivering data-driven services. A product and service concept based on this data will be developed to meet customer needs, with the goal of creating new business opportunities.

VILPE Sense Data Helps Detect Humidity Damage

The VILPE Sense product family includes two products: a humidity control system and leak detectors. Both products measure the temperature of structures as well as relative and absolute humidity. They issue alerts if the algorithm detects excessive humidity.

  • VILPE Sense Leak Detectors consist of sensors installed within the structure. The system generates a humidity map of, for example, the roof structure. This map enables users to locate the leak area.
  • VILPE Sense Humidity Control System is connected to a roof fan that ventilates the structures as needed. This means the algorithm controls the fan to ventilate structures when conditions are optimal—for example, when the outdoor air is dry. This system can solve structural humidity problems that might arise from vapor barrier leaks or insulation that got wet during construction.

VILPE Sense can be used on roofs or in crawl spaces. By alerting early about potential moisture damage, VILPE Sense helps avoid extensive and expensive repairs. This saves time, money, and natural resources.
